• One of the most important parts of buying a house is first finding a good real estate agent. Make sure the agent wants to get to know you personally and find the right hoem for you. Often, it isn’t a bad idea to go to a friend you know who is a real estate agent. They will already know your personality and will be more interested in finding you a good home.
• Don’t be afraid to tell your realator exactly what you want. Do not be shy, they are finding your house. Make sure you tell her each and everything you are looking for. Tell her if you want a big lawn or a fire place or gas appliances. Explain to her your budget and your budget for repairs. Tell them if you are willing to do repairs or not. Realtors understand that different families can afford different things. Do not hesitate to tell them when something is over your budget, the realator will understand.
• Also, make sure you know how much maintenance it needs. If you fall in love with a house, but then discover it needs a lot of tender loving care, you need to be prepared to deal with that. The worst situation to be in is to love a house that you can’t have.
• You also want to make sure to give yourself ample time to find the right house. Being rushed can sometimes lead to stress, or even worse, a bad decision. Don’t get yourself in a situation where you have to move out of your home and don’t have a new one yet. A good tip is to set out a weekend day to go looking at houses. That way you will see multiple houses a week.
• Look at houses in an area after you have investigated the area. Go looking at houses for a reason. Look at the school systems if you have kids or the neighborhoods. Talk to locals or friends of locals to find out about safety and friendliness of the area you are looking at.
• Don’t always leave your kids behind on this journey either. Yes they can be annoying, but they can also be very helpful. Sometimes, they may even bring things you didn’t notice to your attention It is easier to love a house you child loves. In the least bit, knowing their opinion on room sizes and such is helpful.
