Using wind chimes to make your ears smile.
Wind chimes would be a great addition to any residence, both in the sounds they create and the visual beauty they hold. The tones coming from these chimes can be delightfully calming to the spirit as well as the ears. Some of the most serene moments I have enjoyed have been in the evening, sitting outside a small desert cabin, a mild breeze pushing away the last of the day’s heat, the gentle music of the wind chimes adding a quiet tranquility to my chaotic life. It’s like nature’s soundtrack. Like listening to angels sing. Positively enchanting. I particularly enjoy the thought that they are manufactured and still these unique sounds are literally created by nature.
Wind chimes are manufactured in an almost unlimited assortment of shapes, colors, materials and tones. They can be constructed from glass, metal, wood, stone, plastic and even seashells. Each has its own distinctive sound; some are sharp and bold like copper, brass and steel, while others, like wood and bamboo, resonate a softer tone, or vibrate with the high-pitched, delicate sound of glass. Some of the more famous designers are musicians who know how to merge the individual tones into a pleasing and peaceful experience. Find more information on small wind chimes.
Wind chimes’ sizes vary from just a few inches to several feet in length. The bigger the tube the lower the sound. There is something about the deep, lingering, soothing sound of a wood or bamboo chime that can bring calm; a pleasant and gentle sound that seems to resonate with the surrounding environment. The shorter, narrower tubes put out a higher, lighter and more lively sound that gives you a sense of being raised by the gentle breeze.
The two main types are Corinthian chimes and Woodstock chimes. Corinthian wind chimes, which date back to antiquity, are made of a small number of hollow or solid tubes of varying lengths and diameters and even materials. The tubes are suspended around a disk and a clapper hangs between the tubes. When the wind moves the clapper, it hits the different tubes in their center and produces different notes. Woodstock wind chimes are similar to Corinthian chimes, but are designed, manufactured and finely tuned to produce sounds with both harmony and melody. This design is used throughout the world because of the ability to tune it to produce music from other countries. Western, classical, oriental, middle eastern, even Gregorian music has been reproduced with Woodstock chimes. These wind chimes are enhanced with butterflies, birds, animals and other aesthetically pleasing figures. Find more information on large and small glass and bamboo wind chimes.
